This scene was created to show off a 3D scan of an apple, created from over one hundred pictures of an apple processed in AgiSoft Metashape. These photos were a mix of high quality images taken with my Sigma DP3 Merrill digital camera, and low quality images taken with a smartphone.
3D scans are created by meticulously photographing every angle of an object, so that a computer vision algorithm can then process and discern the shapes present in each image, creating a 3D mesh of triangles. Through this process, fine surface details can be recreated, as is scene in the render at right. The image below shows four stages of scene development.
